What is in a name?

We sometimes over look a major aspect of our identity. Usually we identify ourselves as such:

I am female.

I am Black/African-American.

I am a college graduate.

I am a daughter, a sister, a niece, an aunt, a granddaughter, a cousin.

I am Renee.

We use our name when we introduce ourselves but then we never mention it again. Our name is a major part to our identity. We do not like to be called out of our name and only friends and family are privileged to use nicknames.

We all know what a name is, but what does it mean? What does your name mean? What’s is origin? Why were you named it?

Renee is the feminine version of Rene. It’s origin is French but comes from the Latin name Renata which means reborn.
